Sculpture Park Update – Can you help out with the Firewood?

Firewood

The park is still recovering from Cyclone Gabrielle.   The Trust employed contractors to help the cleanup in Conifer Canyon.   Many of the trees that came down in the storm could still be cut up for more firewood and there is still a bit more clean up to do.

In the past, the park has supplied firewood to refugee families through the Red Cross.  As the Red Cross haven’t currently got a capable group of people with chainsaws to continue, we are looking for a service group who have the capabilities of supplying wood for a charitable cause.  If any of you belong to a service club that is interested, we can help.  Please refer us to a group that might be interested for a fundraiser or to help others. Generous local support

The café will be reopening in September.  Thanks to the support of Linkup Paints, the café will be painted in the purple of the park’s brand within the next few weeks.  Wayne Brown of Valley Coatings Ltd., our local Scotsman Valley painter, is also supporting the Trust by repainting all our metal tables and chairs used in the café.

July/August Highlights

Park staff and some volunteers continue to plant from our nursery.  Some trees are being planted to replenish the devastation in Confer Canyon, others to fill gaps in the Asian forest.  The planting of the Asian forest started three years ago so we anticipate that its growth and maturing will be very apparent in Spring.

Even now, turn every corner and it is surprising how much is in bloom.  The daffodils have been unseasonably early and continue to put on a great show.  Some of the rhododendrons and magnolias are already in full flower.
