New WEL Transformer for Matangi. Where it should go? Council Survey – Please have your say.

The Matangi Community Committee have been involved in discussions with WEL and Council on this issue. It acknowledges the limited locations available for locating the transformer in Matangi and agreed to support option one as the least obtrusive to our landscape and road verge while also enabling the transformer to be near a power pole and accessible to WEL staff. The following is the request from Council:

“WEL intends to install a new transformer at Matangi to increase the power supply to the Matangi school and to the wider Matangi area.  The existing transformer, located on a power pole near the Jack Foster Reserve, will be removed.

We recognise the importance of minimising the impact on the nearby historic buildings and the ambience of the village. We are seeking feedback on location options for the new transformer.

At a recent site meeting held with representatives of the Matangi Community Committee, Matangi School and St David’s Church there was general support voiced for Option 1 as the preferred option.

We’d like to ensure we have canvassed all views.  Please let us know which of the three options you would prefer and submit your choice : www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/transformer-survey

Survey closes Monday 26 August 2024, 5pm.
