Peanut News from HCC: Section 1 Construction 2026 -Pedestrian and Cycle access only to Morrinsville Road from Matangi Road from February to May

This is what’s happening

A peanut shaped roundabout at the intersection of Morrinsville Road, Matangi Road, and Silverdale Road.

Construction and road closures

Construction of the roundabout, pedestrian crossing, cycle lane, and shared paths is scheduled from February to June 2026.
From February to May we’re planning to close some roads so the roundabout can be built quickly. Detours will be in place. These roads are listed below and shown in the attached map.
- Silverdale Road closed at Morrinsville Road (no entry/exit)
- Matangi Road closed at Morrinsville Road (no entry/exit)
- Morrinsville Road closed between East Ridge Grove and Jansen Park’s northeast edge (East Ridge Road stays open). U-turn facilities provided.
Morrinsville Road, Silverdale Road, and Matangi Road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
These closures will cut construction time from about 9 months to 4 months, save around $1 million, improve the pavement quality by removing joins, and improve public and construction worker safety.

Key points to note:

Early in the new year, we’ll update you on Section 2.
Construction of the shared path from East Ridge Grove to the Waikato Expressway is planned from June to August 2026.
Construction of a shared path from the Waikato Expressway through to the Ruakura Road/Lissette Road roundabout (in the Waikato District Council area) is planned for September to November 2026.
