Morrinsville Road Upgrade: Road Closes 16 February. Time to make a plan. What else do you want to know?

Construction of the roundabout and associated work starts Monday 16 February 2026 and will be completed by May/June 2026 (weather dependent). During this period Matangi Road, Silverdale Road and Morrinsville Road will be closed at that intersection to enable the work to be done. Details of the project can be found here.

All these roads will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7am-7pm. Some works maybe required on Saturdays to make up for weather delays.This is a major project with important safety implications for the future both in terms of intersection design and vehicle speed reduction.

Detours

The notified detour is via Woodside Road and SH26 but people travelling to/ from Hamilton and the Matangi area will have a choice of options: via SH26 to the Expressway or Ruakura Road; SH1 to Hillcrest via the Expressway; or SH3 to Glenview.

Local residents and businesses and their visitors will need to identify the road detours and adjustments that will suit their own situation best. Hopefully people will work together, where they can, to share the load.

Additional travel time is likely as the roads cope with the extra volumes of traffic. Delays can be expected and will need to be met with understanding and patience. Woodside Road residents have requested that extra care be taken along their road given it’s narrowness. Please keep speeds down and take particular care at school travel times.

School Bus Routes are advised to parents by the schools – trials are underway now.

The No 28 Tamahere Matangi Bus will change on February 16 and will travel to Matangi via the Expressway but not down Matangi Road.
