The original Matangi Hall opened in 1904 and was run by a community committee until it burnt down in 1959. The community built a new one in its place and passed ownership to the Waikato Council in 1962. From that time the Hall has been funded by local ratepayer contributions and hire fees and administered by a community committee. It has been a very successful model due to the conscientiousness of the committee members. Over recent years we have been fortunate to be able to rely on a tight team comprising Ian Wallace, Betty Clough, Graham Membery and Gary Jacobs who have effectively managed the administration, maintenance and improvement of our Hall facilities. It really is time now for some more of our community members to share the load and take on a role to carry this effective operation forward. If you are interested in what is involved please phone Ian to discuss and come along to the AGM to see and hear how you might be able to help. According to Ian you will not find it too onerous – 3 – 4 meetings a year and time to work with current members as you become familiar with the regular routine.
Our Councillors for the Tamahere – Woodlands Ward, Crystal Beavis and Mike Keir are intending to be at the the AGM
