The Matangi Community Committee was set up to contribute to the Matangi community plan and to be a liaison point between Waikato District Council and the local community. It provides an opportunity to raise local issues with council, coordinate responses to Council proposals and funding opportunities and to hear about Council matters from our local representatives.
Committee members are elected for a three year term that begins after the Council elections. At our meeting next week we will set the date for the General meeting and Election of Officers. The General meeting will also confirm any changes to the Committee Charter which will need updating to reflect the new Ward name and any other agreed changes.
All meetings are publicly notified and open to anyone in the community to attend and contribute fully. The committee is made up of those committed to continue to be involved and ensure projects are progressed.
The Committee has been prompted to develop a Strategic plan for our community. Earlier this year a member of the Matangi community prepared a discussion paper for this purpose. It would be great to see this project make progress. What had been Council’s Community Plan process is now Council’s Blueprint and it would be good to know that that document accurately reflects our community aspirations and plans. Please join us if this project is of interest to you.
