MATANGI DRAINAGE BOARD
The Matangi Drainage Board has initiated a proposal to add an area of what is currently part of the Hautapu Drainage Board to the Matangi Board’s area.
The reason for this is because part of the Hautapu Board area drains into a Matangi Drainage Board drain. They connect on Tauwhare Road at Good Street. The Hautapu Board drains, which run towards Tamahere from Good Street, have not been maintained for decades. The Matangi Board wants to undertake this work.
The proposal is, therefore, to include 53 properties currently part of the Hautapu Board area into the Matangi Drainage Board area so that rates from those properties can go towards maintaining the drains that flow into the Matangi Drainage Board drains. Graham Membery of the Matangi Drainage Board says that there shouldn’t be any affect upon rates for Matangi Drainage Board members.
Only the 53 affected properties have the option of either petitioning the council or demanding a poll for the council to vote on the motion to declare the boundaries be altered. This doesn’t seem very democratic but that’s the way it is.
