News from the Sculpture Park

WINTEC landscape construction students plan to complete their project building a pathway up to Nico Thompson’s Cross at the Sculpture Park just before Easter. The renovation of the metal cross and access to it coincides with an event called Seeds of Renewal taking place at the park over Easter Weekend. The event celebrates the 30 years since the rehabilitation of the former quarry started.
The event highlights the processes for renewing, renovating, and restoring the land, the soil and the vegetation. It also highlights the values of reusing materials for creative ideas and refurbishment of sculptures and installations that tell NZ stories.
Visitors to the park over the weekend can enjoy the 2km art-in-nature walk and also choose from an exciting schedule of workshops and demonstrations. Over the four day weekend, visitors can choose to book to come for their walk and to attend the workshops of most interest to them. The Trust is charging just the normal entry fee for coming into the park, the entry fee includes the workshops visitors choose to attend.
The full schedule of workshops is on the park’s website. https://www.sculpturepark.co.nz/ Booking a self guided visit includes the workshop of your choice -booking ahead online is advisable.
