Matangi Poppy Tree project for ANZAC Day 2018

Message from Kitty:

Last year the Poppy tree installation in Jack Foster Reserve drew support and interest from many people in the community.

This will be the last year commemorating 100 years since World War 1 which took so many New Zealanders away.

The installation from last year will be erected again in April with the addition of as many poppies as can be provided by the community.

If you would like to knit or crochet some poppies please contact Faye Douglas – ph 8295799 after 5 p.m.

Some red wool and patterns will be made available but there is no strict guideline on either so if you have your own red wool and pattern that is fine.

It would be  good to have finished poppies to Faye by April 5.

There is also a wider Waikato District project https://www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/services-facilities/community-development/placemaking/community-placemaking-projects  for those interested.

The Community Committee has applied to the Heritage Fund to support the provision of a World War 1 Roll of Honour in the Matangi Hall to match the World War 2 Roll of honour which is there now.

It is hoped to have the commemorative board installed in the Hall by Armistice day in November this year.
